Gastroenterology is an area in the medical science that deals with the diseases of the bile duct, pancreas, liver and intestines. This area is divided into two parts – medical and surgical. Surgical gastroenterology deals with the surgery of both the upper gastrointestinal tract and lower GI tract starting from the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, rectum, liver and pancreas. Liver Transplant:
A surgery, in which a diseased liver is replaced with a whole or partial liver from another person, is known as liver transplant and the surgeon who performs this surgery is known as liver transplant surgeon.
A donor who donates the liver can be a person with a healthy liver who has just died or a living person – may be a family member or a person whose blood type matches well. A liver can repair lost or injured tissues, so a donor can have a healthy life.
