Orthopedic & Arthroscopic Specialist

Orthopedic and arthroscopic specialist is one who specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedure for the treatment of a wide range of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. Arthroscopic surgery is a key-hole surgery that is performed either to diagnose or treat several types of injuries related to the knee, hip, ankle and shoulder joints. Orthopedic and arthroscopic specialists use the surgical procedure to evaluate or treat many orthopedic conditions that affect the joints like torn surface cartilage, torn cartilage, damaged cartilage or torn ACL. The procedure minimizes recovery time and is highly invasive since only a small incision, of 1 centimeter, is made through the joint for various diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

In an arthroscopic examination, a medical specialist makes a small incision through the patient’s joints and inserts an arthroscope that is attached to a miniature camera and television to magnify the structures inside the joint. The specialist determines the type or amount of injury and then treats the problem, if necessary. The procedure can be used to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal trauma, degenerative diseases, sports injuries, tumors, infections, and congenital diseases. An arthroscopic surgeon may also specialize in arthroplasty, where articular surface of a musculoskeletal joint is replaced, realigned or remodeled by osteotomy or other procedures.

Certain health conditions when it becomes important to visit an Orthopedic & Arthroscopic specialist are:

  • Meniscal injuries or most commonly, knee injury
  • Anterior or posterior cruciate ligament injuries
  • Knee Osteochondritis Dissecans
  • Patellar dislocation
  • Medical collateral ligament injury
  • Lateral collateral ligament injury
  • Jumpers Knee
